Shutesbury is one of the most remote towns in Franklin County, bordered by the Quabbin Reservoir to the east and surrounded by state forest. The nearest services are in Amherst, and many HVAC companies consider it too far to bother with.

The homes here are a unique mix. Old farmhouses, back-to-the-land cabins from the '70s, and modern energy-efficient builds coexist on winding roads through the woods. Many homes are off the main road with long driveways that don't always get plowed right away.
